Our Verdict

Salomon discontinued the Iceglory women's ski pant in early 2018.
REASONS TO BUY
Stretchy
Comfortable
Flattering
REASONS TO AVOID
No pockets
No vents
Not as warm
The Salomon Iceglory is an insulated resort pant made from exceptionally stretchy waterproof material with a soft hand and a flattering feminine silhouette. It's filled with 60 grams of Salomon's AdvancedSkin insulation, which is extremely flexible, though not the warmest fill we've tested. The material and fit of this pant stood out from all other pants tested even though it lacks some of our favorite features such as pockets and ventilation. If we had a "Best Bum Award" this pant would win. Skiing in the pair of ski pants is like wearing your favorite yoga pants while sliding downhill in shred pose.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Comfort & Fit

These pants rank highest in the 'Comfort & Fit' category. This is one situation where the fabric makes all the difference. The outer fabric is made from Salomon's AdvancedSkin dry material with 4-way stretch and the insulation is also Salomon's own creation of insulating fibers. Both of these make the pant exceptionally flexible and flattering. No other pant tested had as much stretch as these pants or is as soft to the touch.

Slipping into these pants made us almost forget we were wearing pants. Salomon describes the fit of the Iceglory as an 'active fit', which means it fits close to the body with an articulated range of motion through the knee. The articulated fit means the rest of the pant won't ride up when bending or moving, as they've allowed extra room through the knee to accommodate this.

These pants also flow from slopes to apres effortlessly with no bulk and a flattering fit. We wore them skiing, drinking hot chocolate, and grocery shopping and stayed comfortable the whole time. When style matters, these are the pants to grab. They do run more snug than other pants tested and are a slimmer fit. Salomon offers them in short, regular, and long to accommodate everyone. They have a nice high back to keep snow out, medium rise waist, and have external velcro pull tabs to customize fit.

We tested a small/regular which fit our girls size 4/6 snugly with room for one base layer underneath. Overall, we felt the stretch, fit, and feel of the fabric made these pants truly exceptional - a pair we loved testing again and again.

Weather Resistance

The Iceglory is made with fully taped seams and AdvancedSkin Dry membrane. The membrane is listed as waterproof, which we found true during our resort use of the pants. They are also windproof. The membrane tested highly breathable and we didn't note any moisture retention or build up while skiing.

Warmth

The Iceglory is not the warmest pant we tested. This pant is great for spring temps or warm winter temps in the upper 20s and higher. It is composed of 60 grams of AdvancedSkin Warm insulation, Salomon's own blend of fibers that reflect body heat to keep you comfortable and warm, even when wet. We found these pants to be perfectly warm enough with one base layer on regularly cold winter days (temps high 20s), however, that felt like the upper limit of their warmth.

We know many women run cold, so if you are truly cold-blooded, these may not be your jam. However, if you are planning a late winter or spring ski trip, these pants will keep you plenty warm with or without layers. For the most customizable warmth, you can also consider uninsulated pants with a baggier fit than the Iceglory.

Ventilation

There are no ventilation options on these pants. However, they also are not overly warm. Less insulation means less overheating and less need for venting options; we would suggest wearing one base layer or no base layer depending on the temps. These pants were breathable enough that we didn't notice any moisture build-up while skiing in the resort. Without venting options we cannot recommend these pants for backcountry or slack country use.

Features

Salomon designed these pants to be sleek and modern and left many of our favorite features out. We liked the location of the externally adjustable velcro pull tabs as they didn't irritate our skin like the interior tabs on some pants. Two medium sized hand pockets are located on the front with water repellent zippers. The pockets are big enough for phones and credit cards apres ski, but the items stashed there felt in the way while making ski turns. There are no pockets over the rear of the pant, which adds sleekness to the overall look.

Style

Sleek is the name of the game with these pants. They have no extra bells or whistles to mar their slimming silhouette. They have a medium rise waist with belt loops, a motion fit articulated knee area, slim leg, and minimal boot cut opening. They offer a very clean look.

These pants say, "I like looking good and skiing too." Salomon makes them in many different colors as well.

Best Applications

The best application for the Salomon Iceglory is in the resort on mild winter or cooler spring days when you want to look good and ski too.

Value

You will spend around $225 for the Iceglory, which excluded the pant from our Best Buy award as there are cheaper and warmer pants out there. However, what you are paying for is the supple fabric and slimming fit. The pant is also reasonably warm and performs well. We often forgot about the pants altogether, a sign of a high-functioning pant. The shape and fit of the pant made us feel confident, and that may also have made us ski better too.

Conclusion

The Salomon Iceglory is a beautiful pair of ski pants. The fabric is supple, soft, and moves with you throughout the day. The 4-way stretch is more like a yoga pant than a ski pant. The insulation is adequate although not the warmest. While the features are limited, the fit and comfort are outstanding and the most flattering of any ski pant we tested. This was a pair of pants we didn't want to take off at the end of the day and looked forward to putting on day after day. When faced with multiple options of ski pants to choose from in the morning, these were often the pants our testers grabbed first.
